Most excellent for use at trade shows where you need a UV light to illuminate minerals or other blacklight-sensitive items: it comes with velcro tabs (and screws) for under-shelf mounting in glass showcases.
This is the very latest Version III, which uses GENUINE G.E. (General Electric) components. By incorporating an unusual arced body design, the mirror-like metal reflector plate throws off about 30% more longwave UV light than before... a very pleasant surprise when I first saw this.
These cost more than cheaper versions I've seen, but I decided to go with them entirely as the quality is first-rate and very much worth the extra money. You'll see it immeditely in nice touches like an easy to find center-mount on/off switch and clearly marked battery insertion diagram.
But the real reason to go with this thing is the extra U.V. light output... it's clearly the best I've seen to date (ultimately, I only sell stuff I, too, would buy, and I'm fairly picky...ask anyone who knows me, as they roll their eyes heavenward).

Powerful for it's size (with the understanding it's not a full size AC plug-in unit !). This is an eminently portable, slimline high output AA battery powered genuine UV LONGWAVE blacklight for regular or professional use.
You can save many times the cost of this device if you're lucky enough to spot just one counterfeit bill or questionable antique piece.
Long-term, think of a portable blacklight as a TOOL that everyone should have (it may not be needed this minute, or this month even, but when it is needed, it can be incredibly useful).

TYPICAL MYRIAD USES :
SCORPION HUNTING IN THE DESERT:
Believe it or not, these critters turn bright fluorescent green under UV....Arizonians will cheefully attest to this; one playfully nicknamed her unit 'Scorpion Seeker'.
DETECTING SUN DAMAGE ON YOUR SKIN:
Prepare to be shocked here-----look at your face in a mirror under UV and brown patches will show where sun damage has occurred over the years.
DANDRUFF DETECTION:
Yep, believe it or not; dandruff lights up like Vegas under blacklight

FISHING LURES (GLOW IN THE DARK TYPE):
Quickly recharge this or any other glow in the dark item.
HAND STAMPS:
Used in night clubs with invisible ink for readmission identification.
DETECTING FAKED SIGNATURES or STAMP COLLECTIONS:
Especially, if a signature was 'added' to a painting or document years after its production.
MINERAL AND ROCK INSPECTION:

USE WITH INVISIBLE INK PEN TO SECRETLY MARK ITEMS:
This is very clever, actually. You can mark car parts when getting your car worked on (if your UV mark is still there, the part was never changed). Same goes for returned items if you're a seller. And, of course, to mark household items, bikes, etc. for theft ID.

INDUSTRIAL / MILITARY / POLICE/ FORENSIC / LABORATORY USES
These applications have been used for decades, of course,
QUICKLY IDENTIFY REPAIRED ANTIQUE ITEMS:
Old versus new materials become really obvious under UV--it's almost like having a form of X-ray vision. Glued areas on porcelain or pottery items are a dead giveaway with this handheld unit, as are overpainted pieces. And cracks or flaws in china that are not visible to the naked eye, even a trained one, are screaming out loud under blacklight (older and newer materials and overpainted areas glow differently). Gems, stamps, cast iron and various paper materials are good candidates as well.

TEXTILE ANALYSIS
Highlight weave defects and uniformity; new fabric threads tend to illuminate brighter than older ones.
PET URINE STAINS:
Detect urine on household surfaces; if you have a kitty or puppy marking areas in your house that need to be deodorized, a strong blacklight can identify the offending spots. Often these are invisible to the eye, but will creat an odor over time. Using your blacklight, these stains can be treated with an enzyme cleaner.
HOTEL NIGHTMARES
A side note: I remember (and you may have seen) a mind-boggling TV expose once about commercial hotels and motels, and the stories the sheets therein REALLY told after a quick blacklight inspection by a private detective ('fluids' left behind and never cleaned up, as an example).
REPTILES and some BIRDS:
Certain of these species cannot exist in confinement without added UV light. (using full size AC plug in units).

"After a few bouts of my customers returning computer equipment that has been swapped with a defective one, I came up with a 100% (almost) foolproof way to prevent this last year.
I bought a bottle of UV ink ($15), a very small unique rubber stamp ($2.50) from a store that has thousands of different designs. Make sure the UV ink is not for human skin (nightclubs). I stamped every item before I ship with this UV ink. It can be visible only with UV light (black light) available from many places.
The last guy I cought Fri. sending a defective video card back to me claiming that it didn't work. I placed the video card under the UV light and no stamp! I stamped it on the inside of the metal bracket so it won't wear off from handling. I sent a message to this guy and am still waiting for a reply.
This even works with clothing and pretty much any material I tried it on."

Hello. Here is a use that you should put at the top of your list(you could sell a ton if you listed under an e-bay automotive section): Auto mechanics--when used with leak detection dye (poured into engines), the source of oil leaks will be exposed!! (BTW, I'm not certain but this might also be able to be used in cooling system leaks). Just a thought.

I think I found 2 sites that carried battery-operated ones, but they weren't the better longwave bulbs and probably wouldn't
flouresce brightly or for more than a few inches away. Even more frustrating, neither site allowed you to purchase items online, you had to either call them during business hours or send for the catalog (one was located in Australia!).

Hi, just thought that you might want to include this in your uses, it's something that my wife has mentioned to me several
times over the years. When and where she was going to school (in Chicago, by the way) there used to be a lot of head lice from time to time, so the "authorities" in the schools would do a head inspection, using black light to check for them. It seems that they fluoresce under blacklight, and are easy to spot that way.

I am a primary school nurse. In an effort to teach how germs are spread, I put a powder on my hands called GloGerm.... it can only be seen using a blacklight. After touching various surfaces in classrooms (including some High-5's with kids), I'll use the blacklight to show all the places where germs are... and then show the kids how to effectively wash their hands.

I cannot tell you enough how much this large light has helped me out - sorry for the previous mini novels - but they have been my best defense against those nasty tinea spores (though only 50% of them flouresce) We've gotten my quarantined apt (for past 3 mos), cleaned up pretty well & couldn't imagine using a little tiny Wood's light compared to this. This is been an absolute NIGHTMARE & have literally lost everything I own to this stuff! Thank you again Alan! Hello, I am thinking of getting this unit to take with me to the jungle in Ecuador. Do you know if it is rain-proof? If the bulb is not exposed, and covered by plastic, perhaps the rain would not hurt the unit? Thanks !

REPLY : Hey there....sounds like a fun excursion !
Had a closer look at one just to be sure, but it looks quite tight where the parts come together....even the bulb cover is so tight that it's not easy to even get a fingernail into the seam. So I sort of doubt ordinary rain would have an effect (though total immersion/underwater would be a different story of course.
If you wanted to go one step further, a thin film of ordinary silicone (from any hardware store) on any seams would waterproof it to the max. Silicone is easy to work with, and in future, if you ever needed to take the unit apart, a simple razor blade would undo it.

Thanks as I really appreciate it. I had purchased this same UV light from you some time back. So when I wanted another I checked Ebay and already knew which to buy ( With the double bubble ). I mostly use the light to evaluate restoration and over covers upon oil on canvas paintings. I have never compared the $300.00 UV wands used by conservators. But I can tell you this GE model is certainly in a class by its self, when compared to any other non-direct plug device I have used.

SCORPION WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION:
Almost all scorpions on earth glow under U.V., some more brightly than others, which in large part is determined by exoskeleton density. And why do they glow at all ? An evolutionary trick of nature apparently; a favorite scorpion 'ordeurve' is many kinds of insects. Quite a few plants emit U.V. also, which insects are readily equipped to see. Hence, the scorpion is essentially pretending to be a flower by 'lighting up' and attracting unsuspecting insects who think they're headed for a nectar source. Glad I'm not an insect.

My son and I took the 12" one out tonight and must have found a dozen or more scorps ACK!! in only a couple minutes.
We'd like to get 2 more at least LOL.. maybe he could find some buddies to go on the hunt with him. I'm on my way out to the nearest store to pick up some carb cleaner. It's the quickest killer for them besides a good stomp (and these are on brick wall or between cracks).
We can only get so many in one night and can share the lights with others on same nights.
We got about 10 in front of the house (one was a mommy or mommy to be with 6-9 babies or eggs on her back).
My son and his friend later got "dozens" out back they said. When spraying a crack, 5 may fall out instead of 1. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it. The creepy crawlers were in the pine needles/cones too. (We live on an acre, so there's lots of land to scour.) I'll not be working out there without gloves anymore for sure! Looks like it's time to take out those huge pine trees (12-13) that drop all the mess the scorpions enjoy living & breeding in.

This quite original Blacklight design has been copied endlessly over the years, but rest assured it's the best of the best, and has none of the drawbacks of (usually) hastily produced imitation versions (at last count, probably about 3, possibly 4 spinoffs, all strikingly similar in appearance to this one).
Unit is brand new, in the box.
Takes 8 standard, easily obtainable 'AA' size batteries, not included (are they ever). By the way, alkalines or rechargeables are highly recommended over standard heavy duty batteries.
