upgrade your lenovo y300 core 2 duo laptop to sealed brand new dual channel kingston ddr2 667 2gb=2*1gb with life time warranty

1. Higher speed RAM will work on lower speeds to match the CPUs FSB. However read the rest of the points below.

2. Almost all newer notebooks/desktops in the market today uses chipsets which support Dual Channel Memory Architecture. (Google for DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY more information).

Dual Channel Memory Architecture effectively doubles the memory bandwidth available for the CPU. This is the theoritical explanation. In day to day applications it would not be double, but definitely will be more than 100% compared to non-Dual Channel Setups.

3. To allow Dual Channel Memory, you need two memory modules of the same speed and same size (and preferably same manufacturer, batch to guarantee, but most of the time same size and same speed will work).

What this means is that if you want to upgrade the 512MB/667MHz RAM you have several options:

1. Buy another 512MB with 667MHz speed and make it Dual Channel 1GB total.

2. Buy 512MB/533MHz x 2 Modules and make it Dual Channel 1GB total and sell/donate the 512MB module.

3. Buy another 512MB/533MHz or 512/667MHz or 1GB/533MHz or 1GB/667MHz module and make the total 768MB, 768MB, 1.25GB and 1.25GB respectively but NO DUAL CHANNEL OPERATION.

4. Buy 1GB/533MHz x 2 and make it Dual Channel 2GB total and sell/donate the 512MB module.

Note: if you are upgrading RAM in a notebook which has 667MHz RAM (or rather CPU FSB 667MHz), then replace all the speeds in option 2 & 4 with 667MHz.
Here is a note from Kingston (http://www.kingston.com/newtech/MKF...Rwhitepaper.pdf, page 8):

1. Both modules are the same capacity (e.g. both are 256MB, or 512MB)
2. Both modules are the same speed (e.g. both are PC2700 or PC3200)
3. Both have the same number of chips and module sides (e.g. both have the
same number of chips on the module, and both are either single-sided or
double-sided).
