　　冲岛佟二（木村拓哉饰）是一个认真而不失才华的美发师，他在图书馆偶遇脚有残疾的图书管理员杏子（常盘贵子饰）。佟二邀请美丽的杏子为他的发型设计做模特，不料采用了该设计的杂志竟以杏子的残疾大作文章，令两人发生误会。

　　杏子虽然是一个日常都必须坐在轮椅上的残疾人，然而她却从不怨天忧人，反而对生活抱着积极乐观的态度。在事业不得志正处在对现实迷茫时的佟二在杏子身上感到了希望，并渐渐爱上了她。尽管他们周遭的朋友对这段恋情抱着质疑和不认同的态度，但两人总能用爱来战胜一切困难。

　　但是命运往往是最难以克服的，杏子终于还是无奈的被病魔夺去了年轻的生命。佟二含着眼泪为杏子化了最后一次妆，决心继续努力勇敢活下去……若干年后，佟二终于实现了与杏子的约定，在海边开了一家自己的理发店……
