Weight:183g (5 Tael). Three inscription chops: "周新盛號匯號紋銀" (Zhou Xin Sheng Firm, Remittance Bank's Fine Silver). Two assaying chops: "公估周看訖" (Public Assayer Zhou Checked).

"Zhou Xin Sheng" firm was a member of the Kunming Silver-Casting Firms (or known as private banks), who developed a well-known assaying system in the 10th year of Kuang Hus which later bacame standardized in the province. The"Public Assayer" title was first introduced during around the 20th year of Kuang Hsu (1894AD), which in turn replaced the earier types "Publicly Agreed Public Assayer" and "Remittance's Public Assayer. Such type normally carrys 3 or 4 assayer's names which indicates that the sycee was checked by each of the assayers named on the assaying chop. This saddle carrying only one assayer's name, is believed to be a very rare later type which only appeared during the time when the saddle sycees started withdrawing from the market in early Republic period. The piece is in excellent condition with very clear inscription. A very desirable piece.
