UZBEK SMALL SILK HANDMADE EMBROIDERY FROM NURATA

 The most impressing part of Uzbek handmade embroideries is a Suzani. Since ancient times Suzanis took a special place in Uzbek tradition and culture. It's surrounded Uzbek people during all their lives and has very special value on celebrations. This name of exquisite silk embroideries comes from Persian "sozan" which means "a needle". Uzbek Silk Handmade Suzanis give us an opportunity to have a great insight into the old culture and traditions of this land. Such works of art were prepared and used for ceremonial functions like wedding dowries, fittings for horsemen and their horses, and the general embellishment of reception areas.

 

Although small, Nurata was a provincial center for trade between Kazakhstan and the cities of the Bukhara Emirate. This probably stimulated commercial as well as domestic production of Suzani, which were widely dispersed via the trade routes, resulting in a surprising number of surviving Suzani in naturalistic Nurata style.

 

This fine piece of handmade embroidery is done by Nurata school of Suzanis. The Silk embroidery is stitched on silk-cotton fabric of rep weave foundation. The colourful pattern of the Suzani is composed of wonderful floral images. Colors are rich: green, blue, orange.

 

It is a beautiful sample of skill and talent of Uzbek needle workers!

Condition: excellent.
