The award of Bogdan Khmelnitsky was founded as the last of the "overland" general's awards. This is a unique general's award, because ordinary fighters and guerrillas could receive one of it degrees. Award of Bogdan Khmelnitsky has been founded in days of deliverance of Ukraine. It was the offer of the general of army Nikita Hrushchev, and one of initiators of creation of an award were the Ukrainian film director Dovzhenko and poet Mikola Bazhan. Though in the statute of an award the condition on primary rewarding by an award of soldiers of any front has not been stipulated, nevertheless, the majority awarded were part of the Ukrainian fronts. Probably, it is because of the huge quantity of the guerrilla groups working in Ukraine (guerrillas were widely awarded with award Bogdan Khmelnitsky), and also that Khmelnitsky - the national hero of Ukraine. This award differs from other awards, because the award of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree could be receivede by officers and guerrilla commanders, sergeant structure and ordinary fighters of Red Army and guerrilla groups for the boldness shown in fights and the resource promoting performance of the put fighting problem. The first Decree about rewarding with award of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree was on January, 14, 1944. In it successful operations of group Ukrainian the guerrilla are marked at deliverance the city of Ovruch. As a result of fight with eight-thousand fascist garrison the city has been released, and on the highest building the red flag has risen. Guerrilla Ivan Kalashnikov has established it. He was one of the first gentlemen of award of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree. It was handed over 5738 times (including 216 parts and divisions). The sign of an award of the third degree is executed completely from silver. The silver maintenance in an award of the third degree - 29,554±1,369. Gross weight of an award - 32,0±1,5. The sizes of a sign of an award between the end of a star and opposite to it the end of a bunch of beams for III degree - 45 mm.
