Tall 1930s Universal Art Deco Cast Iron Andirons 24 In

Today, it's 80 degrees and humid here in South Carolina; two days ago the mercury plummeted to almost freezing. We wish we had a fire place for those days when it's damp and cold here to help take the chill off, in which case we would have kept these really really deco andirons. Your gain -- these will be perfect for a cabin, a lake house, a bungalow or craftsman style home, and would look equally at home in a machine age loft too. Good design does that.

Overall good structural condition, all parts of the cast iron are sound without breaks or cracks. Without a doubt had polychrome paint at one time (and if you have lighting of that era, you can always paint to match). These have been in our SC humid garage for a few years, and show surface rust. A wire brush will take care of that, and WD40 works quite well to bring a darker color up. We left them alone -- they are old, and show it.

Log holders bolt on, no cracks there. Signed Universal on the back of the shield (see photo). Stand 24" or two feet high, lean backwards slightly, and may simply need a washer or two at the joint ... but they actually look pretty neat with the slight backward tilt.  Spread at the feet is 9". Total length from end of log holders to the front of the feet is 15". The actual space for logs is 10", so these will fit a shallow fireplace.

We see two holes on each center column upright. No idea what was there ... perhaps a figural? Easy enough to place an iron bolt to match in them.

Will ship disassembled, both for ease of packing, as well as keeping the cost manageable. If we can take them apart, you can put them back. Each part wrapped separately, nothing touching, no frills but safe packing. Check with us on cost -- FedEx is usually less than UPS, and if you can provide a commercial true daytime delivery address, the cost is really much lower.
