Silk-Screen Printing

Silk-screen printing is based on the concept of the stencil: a screen of fine mesh
nylon fabric on which the motif is visible is stretched on to a frame. The fabric
except for the motif is covered with a varnish. During printing the ink is forced on
to the printing surface through the motif. Separate stencils are made for each colour
run. (This print with 7 colours required 7 runs through the machine). The richness of
the colour comes from the quality and quantity of ink. In silk-screen printing, the layer
of ink on the paper is 18 times thicker than for standard printing methods. You can
actually feel the thickness when you touch the final print.

Arches Vellum Ragpaper

This is a paper which is 100% cotton and is manufactured semi-manually. The sheet
is made, as in olden times, on a round machine which guarantees more even distribution
of the fibres and ensures the suppleness, resistance and  softness to the touch of the paper.
Arches Vellum is a conservation grade paper. Its colour is natural and permanent as it is not
bleached during the manufacturing process.
