Any digital camera with an in-built flash is not designed to take close-up pictures, especially in low light condition when the flash will cast undesirable shadows on the object. The flash also typically produces a head-on glare on the object and causes an uneven tone. Even though most cameras are now equipped with a MACRO mode (usually denoted by a flower symbol on the camera’s LCD screen), a much nearer light source is necessary to improve depth, detail and desire of a macro shot, especially so when under high magnification, as made possible by the DCR-250.

The MCLS-1 fills an important and much-neglected void in the world of affordable digital macrophotography. It consists of a constant light source in the form of a circular florescent tube and a power pack which houses 6x AA batteries (not included). It can also be operated indoors without the batteries when you connect it to an optional power adapter.

The 1-size-fits-all macro constant light source gives a professional, almost shadow-free and natural tone to any object. DSLR lenses with filter sizes of 52mm to 82mm can be mounted to the MCLS-1, though some may need additional adapter rings which can be supplied by us at reasonable prices. Certain short focal length lenses might have vignetting (dark edges). It is also compatible with a wide range of digital cameras from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic and many others. Some cameras may need an additional lens adapter to fit to the set-up. Please email us to check if your model needs one such lens adapter.

A bonus item is the highly-innovative SNOOT! This is a hard opaque cover which allows for higher light intensity on your object when mounted to the ring light. A pleasant surprise - if your object is small enough to be covered inside the snoot, you'll get a mini professional studio with all-round lighting!
