RARE CLOTH DOLL BY IDEAL, 1944
They made a series of these dolls, Mary had a little lamb, Alice in Wonderland, etc. I don't know what character she is
22-23" tall
Yarn hair that goes back in a roll from the face to the crown and kind of a pageboy around head
Oilcloth head with painted features and HEAD TURNS from shoulder to shoulder doesn't go all the way around
Body is well sculpted rather than just flat like Raggedy Ann type.
Page 81, Vol. 1 Izen's book
All original clothing. Early 40's print "onsie" with blue skirt over that; red felt shoes made just for her
Left arm has a mend but even without the mend at the elbow, arm was meant to bend. Pursed mouth
There are stains on her body as seen in pictures, but doll is strong. The only mend is at the elbow.
I can't say she is one of a kind, but she is certainly NOT COMMON. All the years of selling dolls, I have not seen her before
