Beautiful brand new, in box 1:24 scale GMP limited edition of 500 replica of the 1970 Pontiac GTO georgeous Paladium Silver & black coupe. Fantastic quality and detail. This model features steerable front wheels and Firestone raised white letter rubber tires with styled steel wheels. Hood has two ram air scoops and hood mounted tach and hidden wipers. Individual chrome rocker and wheel well moldings. Detailed chassis, trunk mounted spare and jack. |
1970 was the banner year for the GTO when it received a complete facelift. Many, at the time, felt that the "Frenched-in" look was too much. In 1971, Pontiac GTO sales which were declining finally crashed. Only 374 Judges were produced, despite having the 455 engine as standard, and this would be the last year. The GTO was also in it's last year as a separate model. Furthermore, GM announced that all engines would have to run on unleaded gas to meet new government requirements and compression ratios and power ratings plummeted. The front end received new styling and Pontiac made a valiant effort to compensate for the drop in engine power by adjusting the axle ratio and carb but to no avail. '71 was the end of the line for the GTO as far as high performance, went although the car would continue until the 1974 model year.
The quality and craftsmanship on this model is unbelievable and the photos cannot do it justice. Perfectly scaled and accurate to the most minute detail including wiring, hoses, gages, folding seat backs, authentic "retractable" seat belts, opening doors, hood and deck lid , steerable wheels, working suspension and more. GMP models are recognized as the finest in the industry and they are the "official die cast producer for the National Sprint Car hall of Fame and Museum in Knoxville, Iowa".
If you are familiar with GMP you know how important their models are. This is not a kit, but a Factory fully- assembled model that comes ready for display and packed in a form-molded stryfoam insert inside the full colored graphics detailed box, which in turn is packaged inside an outer box and then a shipping carton. The photos are of a car in my own collection. This model has never been removed from the packaging.
