This shawl design has been named after the God Kartikeya. Peacocks are found in the Himalayas from the south and east of the Indus river, Jammu and Kashmir, east Assam, and South Mizoram. The Peacock enjoys immense protection in the Himalayan areas where Pashmina wool is gathered. Hindus consider the Peacock to be a sacred bird because the God Kartikeya rides on its back.
