AN ANTIQUE STEEL ENGRAVING MADE IN THE LATE 1860s!!

FROM THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Mr. Burnard's "Sportive Innocence," exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1864, is a group in marble. It shows that the sculptor possesses considerable humor, united with his artistic qualifications. There is something almost grotesque in the manner in which the chubby boy, a kind of infant Hercules, poses his plaything, the rabbit,-just as a mother sets her infant on her knee. Both the child and the animal are carefully modeled; but the enormous mass of hair on the head of the former, thrown back as it is by his action, suggests the idea that its weight would endanger his equilibrium.

PRINT DATE: This lithograph was printed in the 1860s; it is not a modern reproduction in any way.

PRINT SIZE: Overall print size is 9 inches by 12 inches including white borders, actual scene is 5 1/2 inches by 6 inches.

PRINT CONDITION: Condition is fine. Bright and clean. Blank on reverse.
