You are bidding on probably one of the most luxurious sets of the Zohar ever printed.This is the original HEBREW translation and commentary made by the world renown Kabbalist Rabbi Ashlag, also known as the Ba'al Hasulam (which is the name of his commentary to the Zohar found in these volumes).  The condition of each one of these 23 volumes is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, some of the volumes are still in their original plastic wrap! The entire text of the Zohar was translated here for the first time in an unabridged format AND commentary from the Aramaic into Hebrew. It took Rabbi ASHLAG a lifetime to work on this translation and commentary which he started in the 1930's. His purpose was to simplify the Zohar so that it becomes available to the layman or anyone who has a rudimentary knowledge of the Hebrew language. His commentary indeed is quite understandable even if you don't know much  Hebrew, perhaps a Hebrew High School knowledge is adequate to use these volumes. It's great for Bible students and should be in every University library!

The commentary in these 23 volumes is on the entire 5 Books of Moses (the Torah) as well as  the Tikunay HaZohar, Idra Zuta as well as divergent readings of manuscripts and/or editions of the Zohar. What is beautiful and helpful in this new addition is the fact that the Aramaic text is with dots so that a proper pronunciation of the Aramaic can be learned from the text. The commentary of Rabbi Ashlag is in simplified Hebrew, easily understandable. This one of the nicest editions of the Zohar available anywhere! There is also an index as well! WHAT IS THE ZOHAR?

One of the great masterpieces of Western religious thought, the Zohar represents an attempt to uncover hidden meanings behind the world of appearances. It   is a mystical commentary on the Torah, written in Aramaic, and is purported to be the teachings of the 2nd century Palestinian Rabbi Shimon ben Yohai. Legend relates that during a time of Roman persecution, Rabbi Shimon hid in a cave for 13 years, studying Torah with his son. During this time he is said to have been inspired by G-d to write the Zohar. The Zohar contains and elaborates upon much of the material found in  'Sefer Yetzirah' and 'Sefer Bahir', and without question is the Kabbalistic work par excellence. The Zohar is not one book, but a group of books. These books include scriptural interpretations as well as material on theosophic theology, mythical cosmogony, mystical psychology, psychological insights, pre- Christian Jewish folk customs & laws, and what some would call anthropology.
