If you are reading this, you will probably already know far more than me about the World Famous Italian woodcarving firm of ANRI Ltd., started in 1912 by Antonio Riffeser. From the early years they produced a huge, and ever expanding, range of decorative items for the home, with the emphasis on novelty and decoration. Including, as well as a huge range of Bottle Stoppers, both fixed and articulated, Figurines from tiny to 18-inchs, Napkin Rings, Egg-Timers, Corkscrews, Wedges, Hooks, Brushes, Umbrella Handles, Salad Servers, Paper-Clips, Rubbers, Paper-Knives / Page Turners / Letter-Openers, Pencil-Caps, Pen Holders, Spoons, Calendars, Book-Ends, Desk-Sets, Cigarette Boxes, Ashtrays, Nutcrackers, Tooth-Pick & Match Holders, Place-Card Holders, Pipe-Stands, Thermometers, Bar-Sets, Dioramas, Christian Items, etc., etc. Please also view my other items, as I am listing another genuine original very early Anri Ltd catalogue, for sale separately, the other is a multilingual edition, circa 1930, from their Italian Factory, how rare is that! This sale is for a genuine and original, but undated, 1920's Anri Ltd., catalogue No. 4, produced for their own shop at 252 Regent Street, London. Size approx 9-3/4 inches x 6-1/2 inches (24.5cm x 16.7cm), with 113 pages full of illustrations, giving item reference numbers and sizes available, but no prices. The cover is typical 'Art Deco' in style, the 'Trade-Mark' design is most similar to the one used circa 1925, and possibly most tellingly that it is circa 1925, is that there is no sign of any items using the brainchildren of George Studdy; 'Bonzo' the dog and 'Ooloo', the cat. 'Bonzo' first appearing in magazines in 1922 and 'Ooloo' in 1929, sweeping the World in the later 1920's and the 1930's, and reproduced in a large number of designs by Anri, as shown in the next catalogue I am listing. The catalogue cover is of wickerwork-pattern light-brown thin card, is lightly rubbed at the edges, creased vertically in the centre and at the fore-edge, with a couple of tiny rust-marks, but firmly in one piece, and mostly clean and tidy (see photo). Inside is complete, staples rusty but holding, negligible rust-marking of the paper on the centre sheet (and cover spine) only, cover well attached, pages well attached, tiny fore-edge split to one page (less than a quarter-inch), else pages not torn, no writing or graffiti, not tanned, pale foxing to the title-page and final blank page and a little to the fore-edge, slight impression to the paper for the first few pages of the vertical crease lines on the cover, generally very crisp and bright and very clean and tidy. Please see my other items for sale, as I will always try and combine deliveries to save you money. If you would like any further information, or photo's, please email me. On 08-Nov-09 at 01:51:08 GMT, seller added the following information:Just an information update, I have been informed by two contacts, that this is the 1920 catalogue, but my personal knowledge being limited I cannot guarantee this, so please use your own judgement and knowledge about which year of the early 1920's this dates from. |
